Peter Stanyer began his career as an economist with the Bank of England and the International Monetary Fund and for the past 25 years he has worked with institutional investors, families and individuals from around the world on investment strategy and investment risk management.
Peter is an independent investment economist. He advises a UK private wealth manager and has served on the investment committees of several large UK pension funds and of two college endowments. He also undertakes occasional consulting and writing assignments for institutional investors and family offices.
Earlier in his career, Peter was a Managing Director at Merrill Lynch’s Global Private Client division in London; head of the portfolio risk and client advisory service for Merrill’s European fund management business (and before that for Mercury Asset Management); Chief Investment Officer of a Philadelphia based investment adviser; and Investment Director of the UK’s Railways Pension Fund. He has also worked as an economist for the Bank of England and the IMF.
He is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment and of the Society of Professional Economists, and when at Cambridge University, he won the Adam Smith prize for economics.
